Uffington England, the dragon mound
You have a right to it. What you learn though your own experience is yours. It belongs to no tribe. It comes from within you. It comes from earth itself. Whatever you believe in your life is your own sacred space. You create your sacred space and the medicine wheel is a doorway for you to enter and move in it. It comes to you through your own visions. It belongs to you, you own it.
The term shaman came from Siberia thousands of years ago. The medicine wheel existed in many cultures thousands of years before any peoples lived in north America and crossed the land bridge from Siberia. None of the material in this book was taken from first nations peoples without permission. Shaman who shared information with us did so specifically so that we could share it with you. They told us that the time has come for this to be available to everyone.
We know that some first nations peoples do not want the terms shaman and medicine wheel used by non- first nations peoples. They have told us that they feel it is being stolen from them like the land. We are sorry that they associate our saying the earth is sacred with the way our ancestors treated them. We apologize for the way our ancestors treated the first nations people but we have been taught that the sacred earth belongs to all peoples and now needs all peoples working to heal her body, not only first nations peoples anymore.
Everything we learned about medicine wheel we learned from the medicine wheels. This siteis the teachings from the medicine wheel from our experience. When the earth gives you a gift, put it in the medicine wheel and return it as an offering. By putting it in the medicine wheel it becomes a sacred prayer. What do you want for you and the earth? You only get in response for what you give. This is the practical teachings from the medicine wheel. Put a rock from the earth in it, a flower, feather. Bring yourself to it, the offering is a prayer to manifest your vision in the world. By receiving a gift from the earth, you give it back and she gives it all to you. That is the teachings of the medicine wheel.
The stories we are telling started over 5000 years ago, before the word was written, before the tribes separated and becomes separate people. The stories belong to everyone. They have no legacy and descendent. They go back to the very beginning when we are one, and the earth was alive and living and we were all creatures on the earth. There was a time when human consciousness was one, when we looked outside of us and thought it was us, the same way the baby looks outside of itself and sees its mother. That was why the stories will return, the medicine wheel is a way of creating a sacred wheel to put you back in the beginning so you can see out of the eyes of the owl. So that you can feel the pulse of the earth like it was your own heart.
Your medicine wheel will be a ritual that is meaningful for the time in which you are living. It is not about going back to tribal traditions of contemporary first nation peoples. This site is intended to be used in the context of our own lives as we are living today with cell phones, communications, it is about living in the current time. The medicine wheel is a way of taking ourselves and making a sacred spiral that shifts space and time in the busy time we live in.
The medicine wheel creates a pause, a ceremony of exactly who we are
in the world. It creates meaning, it is about seeing the sacred places
in our world that are right there with us, seeing them for the first time
and these must be the mysteries which can unfold in front of us right now.
It is about making our lives the vision quest and making our lives the
visionary path and bringing in the light and illuminating our own spirits.
Just by doing this act, we create a shift in our own consciousness and
that is all it takes to change the world and make it beautiful.
